Mistborn: The Well of Ascension is a fantasy novel written by American author Brandon Sanderson. It was published on August 21, 2007, by Tor Books and is the second novel in the Mistborn trilogy. It is preceded by The Final Empire in 2006 and followed by The Hero of Ages in 2008.
The Well of Ascension follows the surviving members of Kelsier's crew as they deal with the aftermath of the collapse of the Final Empire. Vin and Elend, who becomes king of the capital city of Luthadel, struggle to exert control over his democratic government while facing a siege from three armies, including one run by Elend's father, Straff. Meanwhile, Sazed investigates a prophecy about the purported Well of Ascension from before the establishment of the Final Empire.
