after an extensive amount of research (and it hasn't been easy!) I'm not entirely convinced that Richard André the vaudeville playwright (in 1887) is the same person as Richard André the children's book illustrator (active 1834-1907) the latter is also decidedly American, but Beeton's Christmas Annual (of-which the work was published first) is decidedly British. —ApeKattQuest, MonkeyPython
