German-born diarist, known for her diary which was published as Het Achterhuis. Dagboekbrieven 14 Juni 1942 – 1 Augustus 1944 (The Diary of a Young Girl, or The Diary of Anne Frank), which documents her life in hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. She died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
